FM Showcase Tracklisting for 11/23/2012

We're doing something a bit different on the FM Showcase these days, and it mostly involves us no longer ignoring what we played recently.

Once upon a time, we'd play a bunch of brand new songs alongside a few relevant classics, and then forget completely about the new music we played. We've finally realized that's actually kind of dumb. The stuff's really good - that's why we played it in the first place - so we really ought to play it a little more.

Unfortunately, we've only got two hours to play things, so "things we played recently" get slotted at the expense of "brand new things" (all of which, of course, get added to our radio station at Altrok 90.5 HD2 which, if you haven't tuned in, you're completely missing out on.) After hearing how it made the show sound, however, we realized it was kind of the right thing to do, and so that's what we're gonna do from here on in.

Back With A Treat: Melody Reunion Set

We've been away. A couple of natural disasters will tear you away from your blog, don'tcha know.

But as soon as those disasters dissipated, we (a.) got Altrok 90.5 HD2 back online, and (b.) had a chance to participate in the All Eras Melody Bar Reunion that took place this past Saturday at the renovated Court Tavern. The Fletchers played a set to kick off the night, and then I took over on the decks - and through the magic of MixCloud, you can hear my playlist by interacting with the widget below...


...of course, we didn't play Deadmau5 or The Heavy at the Melody Bar when it was around, but this reunion tries to approximate what the Melody Bar's sensibility would lead it to sound like now. And on that point, the assembled DJs (Drew, IronMike, Rusty and yours truly) figured we did a pretty good job.

Of course, the Classic Era Melody Bar Reunion lurks just around the corner, in February...

In the meantime, your benevolent host has expanded his personal hours of operation - you can hear me every day from 2 to 7pm at Altrok 90.5 HD2. So, y'know, tune in.

It builds on the independent legacy of New Jersey's FM106.3, New York's WPIX and WLIR, Oklahoma's 105.3 The Spy, the pre-buyout mindset of KROQ, WBCN and WHFS and of every other alternative station that was destroyed at a moment's notice - not because they weren't making money, but because there was bigger money to be found elsewhere.
 
We've stood by as truly independent alternative rock radio died. Sure, something called "alternative" took its place, but we know for sure that anything that "tests well" with soccer moms just ain't alternative. (Even if some of us happen to be soccer moms.) So we've taken matters into our own hands.
 
This really is independent alternative rock radio, visible here at Altrok.com and audible at our web radio station. It has the classic music that fired our passions back in the day - or that we maybe only heard about from our elders - but it's mostly made of the new music that does precisely the same for us now. We're paying attention to scenes all over the world, watching the energy build, and waiting to see what it creates. Wherever it happens, we'll make sure you can hear about it here. We've been slowly building all this since 2001, and now that you've noticed us, we're glad you're here.
