Here, Have A New Fleshtones Track...

Well, what can I say? When the record company says "there's a new Fleshtones album on the way", you feverishly anticipate its release.

When the record company then says "hey, wouldja mind putting up a free track for your listeners to download?" you say "no...no, I wouldn't mind at all."

And here it is, "Bite Of My Soul" by The Fleshtones, off their next album Brooklyn Sound Solution, coming this March 15.

Don't say I never gave ya nothin'.

(And of course, you're well aware you'll be hearing it at Altrok 90.5 HD2 too, right?)

Streams Maxed Out! What To Do?

It's probably too early for us to do a Sally Field here, but it's clear you like us at least enough to max out one or another of our listen links...

So this is just a friendly reminder that if one's busy, try the other - and we're probably going to change the page so that it doesn't say so much about AAC being "better quality", because even though it is, it's not so much better that you won't have a good time listening to the MP3 stream instead. (AAC used to be a lot better, but we got our hands on a better MP3 encoder, so they're really not far off from each other now.)

And if all else fails and you're within HD listening range, fire up your HD Radio and tune in to 90.5 HD2.

By all means, however you're listening, keep listening, though - we're happy you're here! (In fact, we'll be looking at expanding the place a bit...)

Heaven 17 Plus La Roux Equals Temptation

Apparently, in amongst their always amazing session lineup, BBC 6Music puts together the occasional May-December matchup, and this one happened about a year ago. La Roux does a half-decent job holding her own in the session environment with Heaven 17, doesn't she?

Of course, you can hear both of them individually occasionally at 6Music...but pretty much anytime at a certain Jersey Shore station you should be well acquainted with by now...

Tonight On 90.5 FM/HD1: The Altrok Countdown for 2010

Every year (more or less) we put the best and brightest tracks of the past year into a completely subjective sequence and trot them out one at a time on the Altrok Countdown...this year, we're running about par for the course as far as getting it in near the end of the year just past. We couldn't do it last week, because frankly nobody would have been listening at midnight on New Year's, so we're putting the whole rigamarole on tonight at 11pm.

Oh, and it's on 90.5 The Night - no special radio needed, just tune to 90.5 if you're in central NJ, or ga ahead and do the listen online thing if that suits you. Either way, it's two solid hours of what we think was the most interesting stuff we played in 2010.

Of course, that'll make you want to hear more, and if you click here to listen to our always-on Modern Rock station (or just tune in with one o' them newfangled HD Radios) we'll hook you up as much as you're willing to be hooked.

Please Look At Our Advertisers (Or The Website Gets It)
Congratulations, you've found the hidden text.

Welcome to Altrok.com, also available at AltrokRadio.com and AltrockRadio.com. Here's where the remaining listeners of several fine radio stations have retreated, regrouped, and built a replacement strong enough to stand on its own. It builds on the independent legacy of New Jersey's FM106.3, New York's WPIX and WLIR, Oklahoma's 105.3 The Spy, the pre-buyout mindset of KROQ, WBCN and WHFS and of every other alternative station that was destroyed at a moment's notice - not because they weren't making money, but because there was bigger money to be found elsewhere.

We've stood by as truly independent alternative rock radio died. Sure, something called "alternative" took its place, but we know for sure that anything that "tests well" with soccer moms just ain't alternative. (Even if some of us happen to be soccer moms.) So we've taken matters into our own hands.

This really is independent alternative rock radio, visible here at Altrok.com and audible at our web radio station. It has the classic music that fired our passions back in the day - or that we maybe only heard about from our elders - but it's mostly made of the new music that does precisely the same for us now. We're paying attention to scenes all over the world, watching the energy build, and waiting to see what it creates. Wherever it happens, we'll make sure you can hear about it here. We've been slowly building all this since 2001, and now that you've noticed us, we're glad you're here.

Of course, it's only here because you want it to be here, and it can only stay if you help it along - especially by checking out our advertisers (they support us) and by listening (the more that listen, the more visible we are.) Please use the "feedback" link above to let us know whether it works for you, and what you want it to be as the future unfolds. (And if you need help hearing it, let us know that, too.)
