Springsteen's Halloween Gift

Do we call Bruce Springsteen an Indie artist? Sure, why not:

- I've run out of fingers and toes counting the indie bands that count him as an influence.
- Check the copyrights on his records/discs...here's a hint, the copyright doesn't go to the record company.

And now he goes and releases a track on the net:

...that's on the stereo station only. I'm still working on the mono one...

Clear Your Schedule for February 21st, 2009: 3rd Annual Pinfield Era Melody Reunion!

[The Lowdown: The (Old-School) Melody Bar Reunion, starting PROMPTLY at 7:00pm on Saturday, February 21, at the New Brunswick Elks Lodge, 40 Livingston Ave in New Brunswick, NJ (click for map.) 36 and over only, please - an exception will be made for significant others 21 and over.]

Hey folks, it's been awhile. Stiffy has been in the cave for the last couple of months, dealing with being laid off, the stock market crashing and the Mets collapsing, once again. Ah well, I don't like to call myself unemployed, but rather a "Man of Leisure". Or a ward of the state. Work is overrated anyway. Been there, done that. I have nothing to prove, so what's next? Oh yeah, the mortgage payment. Ummm...

In any case, things seem to be looking a bit better now (hopefully), and it was time anyway to get back to the world and start functioning again.

So the first order of business is to formally announce that the 3rd Annual Pinfield Era Melody Bar Reunion will be Saturday February 21st at the Elk's in New Brunswick, same place as last year. Matt has already cleared his schedule and will be there to rock us as he always did. Ed Wong will once again be our sound man, guaranteeing a night of great music and fun.

We'll start around 7 pm and go till 1 or so, so plan on coming out and rocking and sweating all night long with your long lost Melody cohorts from the good old days. As always, the age restriction at the door will be 36 and up, so us old timers don't get trampled by generation Y and Z or whatever letter they are up to now. Big John will be there to handle the door, so we'll be just fine, I'm sure.

The Elks were thrilled with the turn out and the take at the bar last year, and are very happy to host us forever, so come out and have a drink, as the proceeds go to the Elk's registered charities. I look forward to seeing all of our Melody Family out that night reliving our glorious past.

And on that note, I urge all of you to GET THE WORD OUT! Hit the websites, myspace, blogs etc. Call and email all your contacts, and let them know they must attend. Think of some old timers who haven't been back yet and try to track them down. Anyone who can get Cal and Steve to attend will get one free dance with Stiffy, or at least be allowed to dance near me, whichever seems safer.

I'll post occasional updates as the time gets closer. Now since you all have almost 4 months advance notice, please clear your schedules/have the baby earlier/quit your job/get married/divorced/ whatever, but make sure you can make it.

I expect this year to be even bigger, since the word is out about how great it was last year, and that Pinfield will absolutely be there. So let's make this the best one ever!

See you then!

Stiffy

Please Look At Our Advertisers (Or The Website Gets It)
Congratulations, you've found the hidden text.

Welcome to Altrok.com, also available at AltrokRadio.com and AltrockRadio.com. Here's where the remaining listeners of several fine radio stations have retreated, regrouped, and built a replacement strong enough to stand on its own. It builds on the independent legacy of New Jersey's FM106.3, New York's WPIX and WLIR, Oklahoma's 105.3 The Spy, the pre-buyout mindset of KROQ, WBCN and WHFS and of every other alternative station that was destroyed at a moment's notice - not because they weren't making money, but because there was bigger money to be found elsewhere.

We've stood by as truly independent alternative rock radio died. Sure, something called "alternative" took its place, but we know for sure that anything that "tests well" with soccer moms just ain't alternative. (Even if some of us happen to be soccer moms.) So we've taken matters into our own hands.

This really is independent alternative rock radio, visible here at Altrok.com and audible at our web radio station. It has the classic music that fired our passions back in the day - or that we maybe only heard about from our elders - but it's mostly made of the new music that does precisely the same for us now. We're paying attention to scenes all over the world, watching the energy build, and waiting to see what it creates. Wherever it happens, we'll make sure you can hear about it here. We've been slowly building all this since 2001, and now that you've noticed us, we're glad you're here.

Of course, it's only here because you want it to be here, and it can only stay if you help it along - especially by checking out our advertisers (they support us) and by listening (the more that listen, the more visible we are.) Please use the "feedback" link above to let us know whether it works for you, and what you want it to be as the future unfolds. (And if you need help hearing it, let us know that, too.)
