The 2015 Melody Bar Classic Era Reunion Recap

Once again, a spectacularly fine time was had by those souls hardy enough to brave the elements and present themselves at the New Brunswick Elks Lodge for this year's classic-era Melody Bar reunion.

First, though, some mention must be made of the pre-reunion broadcasts on WRSU. Since two of the Melody Reunion DJs hold down regular shows at WRSU, there was a surfeit of broadcasting with some crowd-pleasing music mixes put together in the week prior to the reunion.

First Ed Wong put together a couple of hours of Preflux in a shortened slot on Saturday, February 14.

Then Lisa Uber turned her "Machine Age Voodoo" show over on Wednesday night to all things Melody, in a two hour show featuring tracks pulled by her, alongside myself and Pat Pierson.

And then on Saturday, Ed Wong earned the Melody Bar Ironman victory with an epic five-hour-and-change shift (far more than expected) Saturday morning, and then retained the stamina to erect the Melody Reunion sound system, DJ for a while, and tear it all back down when the night was over. He was in luck - it was the kind of night that won't let you get tired.

First up, the newly-formed triumverate of Lisa Uber, Pat Pierson and myself (fresh off our on-air collab Wednesday night) traded short sets of music for the first couple of hours.

Then Ed Wong took over, then Pete Santiago, and then Andrew Prescott and, finally, Ed Wong came back to seal off the night.

When the dust suttled, 180 people had gotten through the door; less than would normally be expected, but more than we thought would show given the rotten weather. And this year, if you'd like to hear how it all came out, we've got the night's proceedings in two parts:

The part leading to the 11pm power shutdown (a feature of all Elks locations in deference to their fallen brothers)...

...and the part after then, as the crowd whipped into higher and higher gears of frenzy.

We're already awaiting next year's soiree. Oh yeah.
